Our Story

How Heavy Metal Ice Cream came to be.

In March of 2016, I was 2nd guessing my career path as a Web Developer as I felt I'd gone from someone who built attractive, helpful websites for small businesses in the St. Louis area, to someone who had basically become a slave to Google and internet sales.

I had always been interested in and had a passion for cooking, and one of my favorite past times was getting in the kitchen with my Daughter, Chloe, and seeing what we could knock out of the park. Truth be told - I was always more of the dinner guy. It's actually CHLOE who is the dessert, baking, and sweets wiz! A lot of our fun flavor ideas were born in HER mind, not mine!

One day on the couch together watching one of our favorite cooking shows (a past time we've always bonded over) , we were watching an episode that dealt with some of the countries top Ice Cream parlors and their out of the box flavors. I turned to Chloe, my mind half on the show and half on what I wanted to do next in life and said... "That's it. I'm going to leave everything behind and you and I are gonna open an ice cream parlor and live happily ever after!".  It was literally at that moment that a tongue in cheek joke became a turning point in life.

2 hours later, I came up with the name "Heavy Metal Ice Cream" (a nod to my live music background and coming up in the Rock and Metal scene of St. Louis) and the URL / Domain was registered.

Soon after, Chloe and I began experimenting with flavor ideas, and before we knew it we had successfully run a crowdfunding campaign raising over $3,000 to help us with "Phase 1 - Get off the ground" expenses.

One year and much experimenting later - we found ourselves enthusiastically joined by MANY of Chloe's friends who believed in us and who's parents let them share in our adventures. We sold tickets for a fundraising Ice Cream Social at the Crestwood Community Center in November of 2017... expected a turnout of maybe 20-30 people, and ended up with 135 tickets sold to the event.

Now - we push forward as we look to open our storefront in Crestwood, Mo. AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. And that's where we're at now. Looking to make the dream full circle. Thank you for reading - and please don't hesitate to contact us with ideas for our business or leads on investors who would like to help us take this journey to it's realization!
