Heavy Metal...? And Ice Cream...?

Let's be real. It's gotta be a gimmick. Right?

Ice cream and Heavy Metal. 2 things that have pretty much nothing to do with each other. So it's a niche, right? Just a gimmick to market to people, and get them through the door? Something to set your concept apart...?

Answer: If it does those things, then great. But no, the Heavy Metal / Rock / Music aspect does not just happen as a brand or concept and it's definitely not a gimmick.

I grew up a fan of rock music. Through the late 80's and early 90's I found myself lost in the MTV generation and completely fell in love with rock, metal, guitar playing, and live performance. Everything from Classic Rock, to Sunset Strip Hair Bands, to Heavy Metal dominated my Sony Walkman and airwaves and much to my parent's dismay - MTV's Headbanger's Ball was on our TV set. A lot.

I eventually, at the age of 13, picked up a guitar and by 14 or 15 was pretty good at it. I found myself in bands all through high school, college, and beyond. When the dream of super rock stardom and playing Madison Square Garden on multiple world tours per year didn't work out - I took to playing in some pretty successful local cover bands. Music, Rock, and Metal has always been a part of my life. And while truth be told, it MAY not be Chloe's listening of choice - it has influenced a lot of what I do day to day.

So how does that translate to an ice cream business? We plan to split our flavors into 3 categories.

  • CLASSIC ROCK = Traditional Ice Cream flavors that we all grew up on
  • GLAM ROCK = Lavish, rich, extravagant flavors that are over the top
  • HEAVY METAL = Everything from Spicy, to savory flavors that you can't get anywhere else

We plan for the eventual ice cream parlor to be decked out in concert and rock / metal music memorabilia. We will play rock in our store from all decades, and the overall vibe to the shop will be unlike even the run of the mill places you've been to who DO in fact use the rock music angle as a niche. You will know it's genuine when you experience it. And it is our intention to make that experience... VERY SOON!

Where's The METAL?
